In 2013, Sandman Cattle Company became a reality. From an early age, Steve always dreamed of farming and working with cattle. Steve’s grandparents, Ed and Lydia Sandman raised corn, oats, and forage as well as milked 30 Holstein cows in Lake County, IL.  Steve vividly remembers going out to the farm with his grandparents and developing a passion for agriculture. He became enriched with being outdoors in the beautiful scenery, learning how to properly care for livestock, and feeling rewarded after a day of manual labor. One of Steve’s fondest memories is gathering around the dinner table on Sunday and listening to farm talk, this was the highlight of his week.

Sandman Cattle Company started with five bred heifers in the fall of 2013. In the spring, calving was a success with five healthy calves. Today, Sandman Cattle Company has 30 registered Angus cows on a farm of 500 acres in DeKalb County, Illinois.

We strive to breed all females by Artificial Insemination (AI) and a timed breeding protocol is used. Our goal is for a balanced EPD profile with lower birth weights.
